Banner Graphic welcomes Lockett, Hollinger to staff
With the departure of two editorial staff members in recent weeks, the Banner Graphic is happy to welcome Jay Lockett and Kyle Hollinger to the newsroom.
Both men started work last week, with Lockett serving as the sports editor and Hollinger as staff writer.
Lockett takes over the helm of the sports department following the departure of Grant Wieman. A native of Lawrence, he is a graduate of Vincennes University and more recently a journalism student at IUPUI.
Beginning the job when he did, Lockett has been experiencing a bit of a trial by fire this week between IHSAA boys' basketball sectional and the DePauw University women's basketball team hosting first- and second-round NCAA Division III Tournament action.
Having already attended several high school and DePauw events, Lockett said he is excited at the welcome he has received so far.
"I'm happy to be writing at the Banner Graphic," Lockett said. "I've been writing my whole live, so I'm glad to be doing something I love."
Lockett and his girlfriend currently reside in the Indianapolis area, but are looking forward to relocating to Putnam County.
Hollinger is taking over the staff writer position formerly occupied by Joyce Orlando.
In this capacity, Hollinger will be responsible for covering North Putnam and Greencastle school corporations and the communities of Bainbridge, Heritage Lake, Roachdale and Russellville, as well as other stories throughout the Banner Graphic coverage area.
In a week at the paper, Hollinger has already gotten his feet wet with a number of assignments around the Greencastle and Putnam County area.
"Moving here from Montana has been a major change but so far everybody has been incredibly friendly and welcoming," Hollinger said. "I am excited to be writing and taking photographs for the Banner. I look forward to becoming familiar with members of the community and learning more about Greencastle."
The Washington state native is a 2013 graduate of the University of Montana. Hollinger currently lives in Plainfield.
Banner Graphic Editor Eric Bernsee is excited about the two new additions to the editorial staff.
"While both new additions have big shoes to fill, we are confident of their abilities and are excited about what they bring to the newsroom team," Bernsee said.
