* At 9:26 p.m. on Sunday, Robert L. Richardson, 43, Fillmore, was southbound on County Road 500 East. As he approached the intersection of U.S. 40 he attempted to stop, but his brakes failed in his 2001 Kia Sephia, which caused him to continue into the westbound lane in front of Michael R. Rissler, 61, Reelsville.

Rissler advised Deputy Adam Hull that Richardson came into the roadway and he was unable to do anything, but hit the brakes in his 2008 Pontiac Grand Prix to try to avoid contact. The Rissler car hit the Richardson vehicle in the driver's side door.

Richardson refused medical attention. However, Rissler along with his passenger, Sandra L. Rissler, 57, Reelsville, were transported via Operation Life to Putnam County Hospital.
