Local fire departments were dispacted to a home 3804 W. U.S. 40 at 5:17 p.m. on Thursday. Crews arrived at the home and found the detached garage on fire, which was later determined to be caused by the homeowner burning trash in the yard. More than 3,000 gallons of water were used to extinguish the blaze, which then spread to the attic area of the home due to the heat coming from the garage. Although the blaze was confined to the west end of the home, damages were estimated at $35,000-$40,000. Assisting at scene was the Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department, Madison Township Volunteer Fire Department, Greencastle Fire Department, Cloverdale Volunteer Fire Department, Operation Life and the Putnam County Sheriff's Department.
