Sheriff's Dept.

* At 6:01 a.m. on Tuesday, Catherine S. Risco, 49, Greencastle, was northbound on U.S. 231 just south of County Road 850 North.

Risco advised Deputy Ronnie Campbell that a deer came into the roadway so quickly she had no time to react and try to avoid hitting the animal with her 2006 Chevrolet Colorado.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

At 8:42 p.m., John D. Finch Jr., 71, Greencastle, was traveling westbound on U.S. 36 near County Road 600 West, when a deer ran in front of his 2002 Chevrolet Venture.

Finch Jr. advised Reserve Officer Ken Rozelle that the deer ran from the north side of the highway striking the front passenger side of his vehicle.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

At 6:50 p.m., Daniel D. Stattner, 43, Cloverdale, advised Sgt. Gregg Slover that he was attempting to exit a private parking lot (Bethel Christian Church) at County Road 750 East and Rangeline Road when he hit a utility pole.

Stattner informed Slover that the glare of the sun off of the windshield of his 2008 GM Sierra Crew prevented him from seeing a utility pole.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department has responded to several recent dispatches.

* On Wednesday, March 19 at 6:08 p.m., GFD responded to a fire alarm at 304 S. Indiana Street. Upon arrival it was determined that the alarm had been triggered due to cooking. The alarm was reset before the GFD returned to the station.

* On Wednesday, March 19 at 11:51 p.m., GFD were dispatched to 330 Greenwood Avenue in response to a fire alarm. Upon investigation it was determined that the alarm was due to someone smoking in one of the rooms. The alarm was reset at that time and GFD returned to the station.
