Spring Break Snow Day

Tuesday, March 25, 2014

On just the second day of spring break, Mother Nature threw the Greencastle/Putnam County area a curveball Tuesday morning, providing a trace of snow across the landscape. Even the metal sculptures in front of Deer Meadow Primary School were coated with the white stuff. While it may seem like an oddity to have snow this late in the year, the National Weather Service (NWS) actually lists March 30 as the average date of the last measurable snowfall for the season in central Indiana. Meanwhile, the latest measurable snowfall on record for the area is May 8, 1923, the NWS notes.
