Dates set for Greencastle kindergarten round-up

Kindergarten round-up dates have been set for students entering kindergarten in the Greencastle Community School Corporation for the 2014-15 school year.

Ridpath round-up will take place on Thursday, April 10 from noon to 7 p.m.

Round-up for Deer Meadow is scheduled for Tuesday, April 17 from noon to 7 p.m.

The sessions are only for incoming kindergarten students. To be eligible for kindergarten, children must be five years old on or before Aug. 1.

Parents would enroll their children at the appropriate school for the area in which they reside. Anyone who is uncertain about which school their children will attend may call either school for assistance.

Parents need to bring along a certified copy of the child's birth certificate (not a copy from the hospital) and the child's shot records.

Requirements for immunizations are listed on the school corporation website under the "Administrative Services" tab, then the "Health Services" tab that appears.

Parents will complete general paperwork and the initial online registration process in the computer lab. Children will participate in basic assessments for language arts and math.

Kindergarten teachers and other school staff members will be present throughout the afternoon and evening.

Due to the time-consuming nature of speech and hearing screenings, they will be completed when students start school next fall. Parents will, however, have an opportunity to complete paperwork during round-up to bring any known speech or hearing difficulties to the attention of the appropriate GCSC staff members.
