Thursday, April 10, 2014

The Tzouanakis Intermediate School Student Council is raising funds to make playground improvements. Thus far, students have raised approximately $4,300.

They received $500 from the Foundation's Youth Philanthropy Committee, $1,000 from the Walmart Store and $1,000 from Walmart Distribution. The rest has been from many generous donations.

This Friday evening, April 11 they are having a Family Movie Night, showing "Frozen." It starts at 7 p.m. in the Tzouanakis gymnasium. It is free admission, but good-will donations will gladly be accepted.

Plans are to get the party started with a "Let It Go" sing-along.

Movie night sponsors include Big Bounce House, Cunningham Insurance, Bittles and Hurt, First Financial and Headley Hardware.

There will be refreshments for sale.

Proceeds will go toward purchasing new bike racks and new soccer goals, bases, nets, balls and jump ropes, rebuilding the circle of benches at the northeast corner and building fences at the Greencastle school.

Additional work will include removing trees and debris, painting and refinishing the swingset, lining the soccer field and maybe a volleyball net and additional tetherball poles, while power washing and staining what is already there.

Cost of the bike racks and soccer goals is approximately $2,500-$3,000 once shipping and installation are included.

The Tzouanakis Student Council will have a workday at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 17 with kids and parents invited.
