Greencastle French students succeed at state competition

Greencastle French students recently traveled to Cathedral High School in Indianapolis for the Congres State French Contest.

They competed against 10 other schools, including private and large 5A schools.

Greencastle excelled in many areas of the competition with 22 GHS students participating in the events and winning a total of 36 awards. In total, the students participated in 13 different categories.

The contest is held each year and it is open to all French students in the state. Greencastle High School has hosted the contest five times.

GHS winners in the Congres French State Contest for 2014 were:

Dictation -- Level I, Zack Wilkerson, first place; Level II, Katie Rose Parsons, fourth.

Vocabulary -- Level I, Nick Seaman, first place, and Cecilia Pohlar, second; Level II, Catie Anderson, third.

Sight Reading -- Level I, Zach Wilkerson, first place, and Nick Seaman, third; Level II, Hannah Beaman, third; Level III, Lily Spencer, fourth.

History and Culture -- Level I, Mary Price, first place; Level II, Catie Anderson, third; Level III, Katie Rose Parsons, fourth.

Non-Stop Conversation -- Level I, Zack Wilkerson and Nick Seaman, second place; Level II, Abby Walker and Hayden Johnson, second; Level III, Levi Lewis and Ichiro Mozawa, fourth place.

Beginning Skit -- Level I, Liam Guinee and David Maginity, third place.

Extemporaneous Speaking -- Level I, Liam Guinee, third place; Level IV, Elise Merrell, first place.

Geography -- Level I, Liam Guinee, fourth place; Level II, Abby Walker, fourth place.

Translation -- Level II, Mattia Seaman, first place, and Abby Walker, third place; Level III, Emma Thomas, second place; Level III, Levi Lewis, fourth place.
