Luther Littrell, age 102, of Greencastle, passed away on Tuesday, April 15, 2014.

Born Jan. 2, 1912 in Waynesboro, Ky., he was the son of Mitten Bud and Myrtle Katherine (Padgett) Littrell.

He married Dorothy (Nelson) Littrell on Dec. 8, 1933, and she preceded him in death in July 2003.

Luther had been a heavy equipment operator with the France Stone for more than 40 years, retiring in 1976. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers.

Survivors include his daughter, Judith D. Birge; sister Gladys McMains; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; son James Allen Littrell; daughters Martha Lee White and Mary Louis Pettit; brothers Lawrence, Lewis, Chester and Leman Littrell; sisters Lola Larkin and Leona Sutherlin; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, April 18 at the Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home, Greencastle, with Pastor Al Riggle officiating. Interment will follow at Little Walnut Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, April 17 at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the American Heart Association or the Pancreatic Cancer Association.
