First-place Wittenberg finishes off Tiger women's lacrosse

Springfield, Ohio - Host Wittenberg scored six of the final seven goals of the first half Wednesday and the first six of the second half to expand a four-goal lead to 15 on the way to a 25-12 North Coast Athletic Conference win over DePauw women's lacrosse.

The visiting Tigers dropped to 3-8 overall and 2-4 in the NCAC, while Wittenberg improved to 10-2 overall and 6-0 in the conference.

Each team scored twice in the opening five minutes before Wittenberg scoed nine of the next 11 to take an 11-4 advantage.

A pair of Carey Kunz scores sandwiched a Taylor Summers score and brought DePauw to within four with 9:36 left in the half.

Wittenberg's 12-1 run bridging the two halves put the Tigers away. DePauw scored four of the game's final six tallies as Elizabeth McCracken scored three times in the final 12 minutes.

McCracken led the Tigers with four goals, while Kunz added three and Jamie Powell two.

Three different Tigers had two of DePauw's 14 ground balls and Summer took four draw controls.

Francine Muryzynski paced Wittenberg with five goals, while Becca Joseph and Logan Wayne each added four. Wayne picked up eight ground balls and Carrie Kubasta picked up nine ground balls.

Wittenberg outshot DePauw, 49-25, and held a 23-17 edge in draw controls and a 32-14 ground balls margin.

DePauw's Liz Hawkins turned away 14 shots, while Wittenberg's Katie Reuter finished with eight saves.

The Tigers host Allegheny on Saturday at Noon at Blackstock Stadium.
