Eagle track team takes down Cascade

CLAYTON -- The South Putnam boys' and girls' track teams picked up a pair of wins on the road Tuesday, as both bested WCC foe Cascade.

The boys' squad split individual wins with the Cadets as both teams took eight first place finishes, but an extra relay win and 10 second place finishes allowed the Eagles to take a comfortable 73-58 victory.

Klayton Vittetow led South Putnam by taking three events, winning the 110 and 300-meter hurdles as well as the high jump. Berndt Freeman won the 800-meter run while Joe Masters claimed a win in the shot put and Jacob Lorimer took first in the pole vault.

The Eagles also scored wins through the 400-meter relay team of Wes Riner, Ben Fiest, Lucas Lorian and Timothy Parker as well as the 3200-meter relay team of Colten Bunten, Tyler Nield, Logan Vandermark and Kieffer Vittetow.

South Putnam's girls' squad needed a win in the final relay of the day to edge past Cascade 64-59.

Ariel Higgins picked up wins in both the 100 and 300-meter hurdles to lead the Eagles while Kim Cheatham won the 400-meter dash, Deborah Cheatham claimed the high jump and Amanda Barnes took first at shot put.

The girls' squad also swept the relay events through the 400-meter relay team of Higgins, Lois Cheatham, Aubrey Nichols and Blaze Bottorff, the 1600-meter relay team of Higgins, Nichols, Kim Cheatham and Deborah Cheatham and the 3200-meter relay team of Nichols, Madie Egold, Julianna DeLano and Jessica Jones.
