CLOVERDALE -- The Cloverdale boys' golf team saw victory Thursday when Linton visited.

After a slow start, the Clovers gave great efforts on the later holes and couldn't be denied the match, Winning 179-195.

"We played better than on Monday, but conditions were far better. We had some struggles with certain situations, but I think overall we took a step forward," Cloverdale coach Doug Wokoun said.

"Rylan (Mattocks) had a pretty solid round, and finished very well after a rough start."

Mattocks scored 42 strokes, the lowest of the entire match.

Chase Snyder, Freddie Fislar and Aaron Whitlock all came in with scores under 50. Zach Nichols rounded out the winning team with 55.

"Chase bounced back with a good effort as well," Wokoun said. "Freddie and Aaron ran into some difficultlies and just never really found a comfort level.

"Both were forced to take some penalties, which is uncommon for them. Zach had one bad hole, but is making progress, and we are seeing good things in his game."

Cloverdale (2-0) plays in the Danville Invitational on Saturday at 8:30 a.m.
