After months of preparation, it is almost time for this year's Relay for Life, which will take place Saturday, April 26 from noon to midnight in DePauw University's Indoor Tennis and Track Center.

Relay for Life is an overnight community gathering, which began in May 1985, where everyone is provided with an opportunity to fight cancer and help save lives. The American Cancer Society event began in Tacoma, Wash., and is now taking place worldwide in more than 5,200 communities and 20 countries with more than 4 million participants. The event raises nearly $400 million a year.

This year's relay has a theme of Passport for the Cure and has a fundraising goal of $140,000.

Those participating in Relay for Life that have signed up for a campsite this year will have a 10 x 10 area. Participants are allowed to have stand-up tents, couches, chairs and coolers. However, heat-driven items, nails, stakes, paint or tape on the floor and handguns are not allowed.

Teams that have signed up for a campsite can unload at the north end of the Indoor Tennis and Track Center. Committee members will be available to assist Teams with the unloading.

All campsites will be located in two places, within the track closest to the north side and along the eastern wall of the facility. There will be no access to power outlets during the event.

Those with physical impairment/handicap can also be dropped off at the north end of the Indoor Tennis and Track Center. However, no relay parking is allowed in that area.

All vehicles will be required to park in the new south parking lots. These lots are on the south side of Hanna Street. Pedestrians can then walk on the Hanna Street promenade to the main south entrance of the indoor facility.

There will be no working lights on the parking lots, attendees encouraged to use extreme caution after dark when arriving or leaving the event.

All attendees must check-in at the registration table, and any one under the age of 18 must be registered.
