Samuel Autman

As a 10-year-old boy, DePauw University assistant professor of English Samuel Autman witnessed a friend whose father found him playing with lipstick.

The father proceeds to place the boy in a dress and high heels and walk him around the neighborhood to humiliate the boy for his curiosity of lipstick.

This serves as the central experience which makes up the short film "A Long Walk" by 2007 DePauw graduate Chinonye Chukwu and based off the short story by Autman.

In addition to the film screening, Autman will be reading excerpts from his current working manuscript during the public event at 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 29 in the DePauw Union Building ballroom.

The screening is free and open to the public.

After the film a question-and-answer session will be staged with both Autman and Chukwu present to discuss their projects.

The evening will conclude with a showing of "Bottom," another short film by Chuwu.

  • Wish I could make it! I love that we have these types of events in town.
