Greencastle softball loses defensive battle

Saturday, April 26, 2014

Greencastle softball put on a defensive show Friday only allowing one run, when they traveled to Danville. Unfortunately for the Tiger Cubs they were unable to score themselves and lost 1-0.

"Credit to Danville," Greencastle coach Dave Keller said. "You're not going to win many softball games when you don't score. You put a lot of pressure on your defense."

Pitching for Greencastle was Skyler Hensley who had three stikeouts and walked three. The ball was being put into play but the Tiger Cubs were getting their outs.

"We've got a solid defensive team," Keller said. "It starts with defense. You're going to run up to a good pitcher and not hit well. As long as you play defense, you'll have a chance to win."

Only having one senior on the squad, the 4-5 Greencastle team has high hopes after its road trip where it played six of its last seven games on the road. They beat Rockville on Thursday 6-4.

Batting well for the Tiger Cubs was Regan Keller who scored a double. Kenlee Johnson and Paige Bragg both scored singles.

"We're a young team," Keller said. "You will lose some close games when you are that young, but their isn't much point in losing 1-0 if you don't learn from it. We did."

Greencastle next game is against Owen Valley on Monday. The Tiger Cubs will enjoy home field that game before going back on the road to play Mooresville on Wednesday.
