The Cougars continue to improve their season record with a long awaited first place invitational win at the Southmont Invitational Saturday at the Crawfordsville Country Club.

With several Cougars drastically reducing their scores from last week's Danville Invitational, the Cougars scored a 319 for the meet. Mason Asher and Austin Judy both shot 77's, sharing the second place medalist award.

Danny Smith carded an 81 with brother Jake Smith following with an 84 and Jake Holtze scoring an 85 for his first 18 hole match.

Charlie Bullerdick from Southmont was medalist for the meet with a 75.

This is the first Southmont invitational win for the Cougars in many years.

Four-year team member Mason Asher was especially excited to win this invitational as it was one of his goals for the year.

Asher shot his best 18 hole score in his golfing career at North Putnam. Asher worked hard in practices last week to improve upon his mental game to help him reach his goal.

Asher had a team high 15 greens but struggled with the green speeds en route to five 3-putts.

Judy also shot his best 18 hole score ever as a Cougar and will continue to improve his game the rest of the season.

Danny Smith encountered more double bogies than usual for his game but he managed to stay consistent with his 81.

Jake Smith improved his score by 4 strokes by improving approach shots, fewer double bogies and fewer putts.

Holtze was able to shoot a very respectful 85 for his first 18 hole score ever for the Cougars.

Holtze really tightened down on the back nine following a front score of 48 with a great 37 on the back four out of the five Cougars all shot a 37 on the back nine of the course.

Coaches Linda Patrick and Brian Judy were extremely pleased with the Cougar performance at the invitational.

All team members practiced hard last week to improve upon their individual striking problems and practiced good course management, which all contributed to the win.

The Cougars will face three meets this week, with Cloverdale on Monday at Twin Bridges, Owen Valley and Cascade on Tuesday at Deer Creek, and a make-up meet against Rockville and Turkey Run on Wednesday.
