Cloverdale man airlifted after State Road 42 crash
CLOVERDALE -- A 69-year-old Cloverdale man sustained serious injuries Wednesday night in an accident on State Road 42 near Cloverdale.
At approximately 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, Indiana State Police and Putnam County emergency agencies responded to a two-vehicle crash at 1420 E. State Road 42.
Preliminary investigation revealed Mark Patterson, 50, of Cloverdale, was attempting to back a 2014 Freightliner semi tractor into his driveway from SR 42, when he was suddenly struck in the side by a 2004 Ford SUV driven by Jack Rhoden of Cloverdale.
Rhoden was extricated from the vehicle by Cloverdale Fire Department rescue workers. He stabilized by Putnam County Operation Life, and then airlifted to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
Rhoden was not wearing a seatbelt, ISP officials said, and appeared to have suffered multiple fractures and lacerations. His injuries appeared to be life-threatening, authorities said.
Patterson was slightly injured and treated at the scene.
State Road 42 was closed for approximately 90 minutes for crash investigation and clean-up.
The accident was investigated by Trooper Jonathan Cumbie. Assisting were Troopers Yan Dravigne and Ryan Purkiser, Putnam County Sheriff's deputies, Putnam County Operation Life and the Cloverdale Fire Department.
