May City Park Dept. offerings range from Legos to airplanes

Coming in May are several special events offered by the Greencastle Parks and Recreation Department and their partners.

Starting the week of May 5 is the park's Men's and Women's Tennis League designed for those 16 and older who like get out and play a little tennis, get a little exercise and meet some new friends.

Plans are to will keep it simple, offering men's and women's singles matches scheduled by the Parks Department to be played each week either at Robe-Ann Park or other locations.

Trophies will be awarded to first, second and third place, and everyone will receive a T-shirt, water bottle, and league standings with their schedule.

Registration deadline: is May 5. Fee is $20 per player.

On Tuesday, May 6, the Parks Department will offer a Pets Workshop with Dr. John Scamahorn from the Animal Medical Clinic inviting the group to his clinic to discuss the responsibilities of owning and caring for your family's pet.

A question-and-answer format will be used and take-home information will be provided. The 5-7 p.m. program will meet some of the requirements for the BSA's Pet, Veterinary Medicine and/or Dog Care merit badges.

Program will not require bringing a pet. Pre-registration is required. Deadline to register is Monday, May 5. Fee is $10 per person.

On Thursday, May 8 a Brickmania "Mixel Party" is scheduled at Greencastle City Hall from 6:30- 8:30 p.m.

It is open to the first 12 participants with pre-registration required (deadline May 6). Cost is $10 per person.

Lego Mixels are creative creatures made up of basic building blocks of Lego matter. Mixels are the subject of this special Brickmania build that includes a chance to view special Lego displays, an opportunity to free-build with the department's collection of building blocks, as well as Lego-shaped treats and a drink.

On Saturday morning, May 10, a free event, "Mom and Dad, I want to be a Pilot," is scheduled at the Putnam County Airport from 10 a.m. to noon.
