Cougar golf play well at Cascade, take first

It seems like the Cougars just can't escape strong, gusty winds and chances of rain for most of their matches this season. Tuesday night's match at Cascade against Cascade and Owen Valley was no different.

Considering all the conditions for the night, the team fared well and carded a 172 for the match beating Owen Valley by 21 strokes..

In the pre-game discussion, Coach Linda Patrick and Coach Brian Judy told the team not to expect some of their scores they have been shooting due to the high, gusty wind conditions and that those conditions will be different on every hole. The coaches also advised the players to possibly go down at least 2-3, if not more, clubs as they faced the winds. It was also mentioned in the pre-game talk that putting will be tough as well.

At the end of the match, not only were the coaches pleased with the score but were also extremely pleased with how the players listened carefully to their advice and carried it onto the course.

Austin Judy was medalist for the match with a 40.

Shooting very well in the extreme wind from tee to green, he still struggled with dropping the needed putts.

Ben Hazelgrove carded a strong 43 with his putts keeping him in good shape for his score. Danny Smith encountered putting problems as well, scoring a 44. Mason Asher managed to only have 14 putts but his tee to green numbers were lower than his normal game, and he ended the match with a 45. Jake Holtze, holding his own on a tough course, managed to pull out a 46. Coming in with a 49, Jake Smith only had 18 putts but had some difficulty with tee shots.

Owen Valley came in second with a 193. Owen Valley players Johnson and Patterson came with with a 41 and 43 respectively. Cascade only had three players, thus having to forfeit the match.
