A sloppy day for North Putnam meant a high-scoring day for South Putnam. The Eagles were able to get the the victory and the split against the Cougars. They won 14-9.

The game was close through the first two innngs even with the solo homer by Tyler Long.

However when South Putnam decided to try four straight bunts, the Tiger Cubs were unable to field the ball and get runners out.

The Eagles scored five runs in the third.

At that point, down 6-2, it was a game of catch-up for North Putnam.

With South Putnam pitcher Brandon Gierke getting high in his pitch count, North Putnam was able to score three runs in the fourth inning to get the score close.

South Putnam then went on its own run in the fourth and scored four.

At that point even a two-run home run by Cougar Coy Flynn, his second homer of the year, couldn't bring the visiting back.

Gierke, who threw 100 pitches in four innings, had nine strikeouts and three walks with just five runs scored.

Beau Green took the loss for North Putnam. He gave up nine runs, though only three were earned as the Cougars had trouble with errors, commiting six.

North Putnam will be at home for its next game playing Tri-West Friday at 6 p.m.

South will host Riverside Parke Friday at 5 p.m.
