James T. 'Jake' Brown

James T. ("Jake") Brown, 78, passed away at his home early on Monday morning, May 5, 2014.

He was born on Aug. 22, 1935 to George Thomas and Elizabeth Hedge Brown.

He graduated from Reelsville High School in 1953. He served in the U.S. Army.

He retired from IBM Corp. where he worked in purchasing and he also farmed. He served as the Franklin Township trustee for 19 years, retiring in January 2014.

He was a member of the Roachdale Masonic Lodge 602.

He married Nancy Livesay on Sept. 28, 1957 at Greencastle, and she survives.

He is also survived by one son, Matthew and wife Lisa Brown of Russellville; one daughter, Lynn and husband Roger Smith of Greencastle; six grandchildren, Rachael Brown, Liz and husband Trenton Lucas, Thomas Brown, Samantha and husband Luke Simpson, Alex Callahan, Luke Callahan; one sister, Loretta Huff of Coatesville; and one brother, Ralph Brown of Carlisle, Pa.

He was preceded in death by four sisters, Virginia Bowers, Florence Shaner, Miriam Maury and Kathryn Littrel; three brothers, Donald, William, John Brown; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are planned for 10 a.m. Thursday May 8 at Brick Chapel United Methodist Church, north of Greencastle. Visitation will be at the church on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m.

Masonic memorial rites will be conducted Wednesday evening at the church. Rev. Roger Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Brick Chapel Cemetery.
