Tiger Cubs golf get first place victory against Monrovia,Cascade

Friday, May 9, 2014

CLAYTON -- Greencastle enjoyed a first place victory Thursday when they made the trip to Monrovia. They scored 151 to Monrovia's 226 and Cascades incomplete score.

The low man for the Tiger Cubs was Alec Davis, who finished with a 32.

This win comes after their big win at the Tiger Cub Invitational, where they took first place over Rockville, Southmont at South Vermillion.

Coach Stephen Paquin says this was a great match for preparing the team for the post-season.

"(The win was a) good tune-up for the upcoming WCC tournament on Saturday," Paquin said. "Each player hit some very good shots on a very windy day. They will have to strike the ball solidly, so the wind won't have such an effect on their shots and they will be able control the distance and direction. We are continuing to put things together and are very close to playing very well."

Wind and other weather conditions have played a part in a lot of Greencastle's matches this year.

This hasn't' had any type of negative effect on the Tiger Cubs, who won the Mustang Invitational on April 19 despite the elements.

The West Central Conference tournament will be Saturday at 9 a.m. at Deer Creek Golf Course, with Greencastle returning to Deer Creek to take on its WCC rivals.
