GHS alum English earns high honors, graduates from Hope

Laura English, the daughter of John English of Greencastle and Mary Dixon of Coatesville, recently graduated from Hope College with a Bachelor of Arts in management and economics.

English took part in the Sunday, May 4 commencement exercises on the Hope campus in Holland, Mich.

The 2010 Greencastle High School graduate also earned several honors to cap her four-year Hope experience.

English was among 58 Hope graduates initiated into the Zeta of Michigan chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, the nation's oldest scholastic honorary society. The formal initiation ceremony took place on Sunday, April 13.

Hope faculty who are members of Phi Beta Kappa elected the students in recognition of their high grade point average in liberal arts courses, their broad cultural interests and their independent and creative scholarly activities outside the classroom.

The Greencastle native also receive a pair of awards during the college's annual honors convocation on Thursday, April 24.

English received the Allan C. Kinney Memorial Award, which is presented to an outstanding graduating senior majoring in economics, management or accounting. The recipient is selected by the faculty teaching in these areas.

She also received the Muiderman Senior Award, which is a monetary gift given annually to one female and one male majoring in ecomonics, management or accounting.

Hope College is a four-year, co-educational liberal arts college and is affiliated with the Reformed Church of America.
