Area 30 Career Center awards nearly $10,000 in scholarships

Area 30 Carrer Center recently awarded some of its deserving students nearly $10,000 in scholarships during its annual Senior Awards program last week. Among the students recieving a scholarship were (front, left) Rebecca Booth, Caleb Winings, Nathan Thompson, Kodi Burchett, Brittney Chandler, Caitlin Kelly, Jake Quisenberry, Chasity Centeno, Kayla Sage, Elliot Dunbar, Nathan Lancaster, Tommy Suddarth, Scott Cummins, Mike Larocque, Sean Hinners, Josh Mitchell, Ron Palmer and Chris Gibson.

Area 30 Career Center recently held its annual Senior Awards Program to recognize student accomplishments in their Career & Technical Education programs. Area 30 awarded nearly $10,000 in scholarships to seniors.

Top honors went to Scott Cummins a South Putnam student in the Computer Networking Systems program.

Cummins will be studying computer networking at Vincennes University.

From the 3D Interactive Media program, Eminence student Chris Gibson was awarded a scholarship to attend International Business College to study graphic design.

From the Automotive Collision program, North Putnam students Michael Larocque and Nathan Thompson earned award honors and will be entering the work force.

Automotive Service program students, Sean Hinners and Jake Quisenberry, both from North Putnam, were awarded with scholarships to attend Vincennes University to study automotive services.

From the Culinary Arts program, Kodi Burchett, a Greencastle student, earned a scholarship to attend IUPUI to study Marketing and Business Management while Ron Palmer, a South Putnam student, won a scholarship award to attend Ivy Tech to study culinary arts restaurant management.

Kayla Sage, a Greencastle student in the Nursing program, won a scholarship to study nursing at Indiana State University. From the EMT program, two Greencastle students, Brittney Chandler and Elliot Dunbar and an Eminence student, Caitlin Kelly, won scholarships.

Chandler will study dental hygiene at Indiana State University. Dunbar will study paramedic science at IUPUI and Kelly will study nursing at IUPUI.

Representing the ICE program was Kayla Broadstreet, a South Putnam student, who won a scholarship to attend Harrison College to study veterinary technology.

Rebecca Booth, a North Putnam student enrolled in the Early Childhood Education program, earned a scholarship to attend Indiana State University to study pre-dentistry.

Also recognized at the awards program were students who have won Career andTechnical Educational scholarships based on their Area 30 Career Center experience and performance.

From North Putnam, Chasity Centeno earned a full-tuition scholarship from the Mike Rowe WORKS Foundation to attend Midwest Technical Institute to study welding.

Caleb Winings, also a North Putnam student, won a full tuition scholarship to Lincoln College of Technology to become a CNC Operator.

Also earning scholarship dollars from Lincoln Tech were Triston Campbell, Bryce Gibson, Preston Lady, all from Greencastle; Seth Shadwich from Cloverdale and from North Putnam, Justin Griffin. Two students were awarded scholarships from their winning performances from Skills USA.

Josh Mitchell, a Greencastle student, earned a full tuition scholarship to attend Vincennes University to study computer networking while Tommy Suddarth will use his award to attend Ivy Tech to study criminal justice.

The Putnam County Fraternal Order Police presented the Jim Baugh Memorial Scholarship to Nathan Lancaster, an Area 30 Law Enforcement student who attends North Putnam.

Area 30 Career Center is able to award scholarships each year to deserving students thanks to the generous donations from many local business and individuals who support Area 30 students by contributing to the Scholarship Fund and/or by participating in the Area 30 Golf Outing.
