Greencastle Youth Football, Youth Cheer groups registering for fall

Thursday, May 22, 2014

Greencastle Youth Football and Greencastle Youth Cheer programs are currently registering participants for the fall 2014 season.

The Greencastle Youth Football program's mission is to augment the physical and mental development of children through learning and playing the sport of football.

It is the intention of GYF to give all eligible individuals the opportunity to participate in the American tradition of football that encompasses instilling the sense of teamwork, the excitement of victory and the character-building exercise of facing defeat with dignity.

Through the continued support of our parents and sponsors, GYF will issue protective equipment to each player, for use during the football season. Players will be equipped with a helmet, shoulder pads and practice and game pants. These items will be returned to the league at season end.

In addition, each player will get a personalized game jersey, with name and number that may be kept by the player.

GYF registration fees are $95 per player, with a $10 discount for early registration by May 28. An additional $10 discount will be extended if a family has more than one child participating in the program. Final registration deadline for Fall 2014 Greencastle Youth Football is July 15.

In its inaugural year, the Greencastle Youth Cheer program will run in conjunction with the Greencastle Youth Football program.

Youth Cheer participants will be placed on squads, and will cheer on the Greencastle Youth Football teams at home and away games.

Cheer program participants will be taught basic cheer moves and motions, and will build upon those skills according to age and ability, as the season progresses. The GYC season will kick off July 28 with a Cheer Clinic.

GYC registration fees are $30 per participant. In addition, each participant will be required to purchase a uniform. Uniforms will include a skirt, shell, briefs, socks, poms and a cheer bow, at the cost of $57.30. Program participants must register and be fitted for uniform via a sizing kit by June 5.

For both Greencastle Youth Football and Greencastle Youth Cheer programs, students in grades K-6 who are enrolled in the Greencastle School Corporation may participate. Teams will be divided into Pee Wee (K-2nd grade), Minor (3-4 grade), or Major League (5-6 grade) divisions. Home-schooled students within the Greencastle School Corporation district are also eligible to enroll.

For prospective football players entering kindergarten, the league will require a parent conference prior to accepting the registration to evaluate readiness for the program.
