Putnam County track advances athletes past sectional

TERRE HAUTE -- Cloverdale led the charge for Putnam County at the IHSAA Boys' Track and Field Sectional at Terre Haute North High School Thursday night.

A third place finish overall and the only individual champion on the day belonged to the Clovers, followed by South Putnam in fifth, Greencastle in seventh and North Putnam just behind in eighth place.

Wade Warren stormed to first in the 110-meter hurdles as well as finishing second in the 300-hurdles and will be joined in the hurdles by teammate Cody Stout, who finished fourth in the 110-hurdles.

Chris Moghadam finished second in the pole vault, losing out on first place due to jumps, while Nick Blundell edged fifth place by .01 seconds to take fourth in the 800-meter run.

Blundell also qualified as a member of the third place 3200-meter relay team, along with Jacob Waycott, Dean Monnett and Jackson Szczerbik.

South Putnam will send three athletes down to the regional as Klayton Vittetow finished third in both the 110 and 300-hurdles, Wes Riner finished fourth in both the 100 and 200-meter dashes and Joe Masters finished third in the discus competition.

North Putnam added three competitors to the regional fold as well. Nick Kaufman finished second in the high jump and fourth in the long jump to return to Evansville while Grant Bryan topped Greencastle's Austin Mitchell for fourth in the shot put.

Tucker Lowe finished fifth in the 100-meter dash but will join the Cougar contingent after a scratch in the top-four made him eligible to advance.

Sedrick Weinschenk and Isaac Harms both qualified for the Tiger Cubs, with both finishing fourth in the 300-hurdles and 1600-meter run respectively.
