Dorothy L. Martin

Dorothy L. Martin, age 103, passed away on Friday, May 23, 2014.

Born May 22, 1911 in Parke County, she was the daughter of Roy O. and Nellie (Smiley) Berry.

She attended Bellmore Schools and was a 1930 graduate of Green Township High School.

She married John C. Martin on Dec. 7, 1935 and he preceded her in death on March 22, 1984.

Dorothy had been a cook at the Northeast Elementary (now Tzouanakis), Jones and Ridpath schools, retiring in 1976.

She was active with the Senior Center Kitchen Band and Food Pantry; the Putnam County Playhouse; and the Clinton and Madison Township Homemakers Club.

She was an active farmer and loved to play bingo and Rubik cube with friends.

Survivors include her children, Dale C. (Barbara) Martin of Crawfordsville, and Donna Lou (Travis) Collins of Greencastle; grandchildren Jeff (Kim) Martin of Crawfordsville, Dawn (Rick) Bray of Orlando, Fla., and Michael (Melissa) Pennington of Indianapolis; great-grandchildren Heather Wall, Taylor Bray and Amelia Pennington; great-great-grandchildren Ashlyn, Emerson and Kendalyn Godbey and Sophia Wall; step--great-granddaughter Aubrey Kellison; step great-great-grandchild Haleigh Wall.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter Betty Joan Pennington; two sisters, Susanna and Mary Martin; and a brother, William Berry.

Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Monday, May 26 at Old Cedar Cemetery, Portland Mills.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to noon at the Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home, Greencastle, on Monday.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory to the Clinton Falls Church or the Old Cedar Cemetery at Portland Mills.
