Clover baseball loses to Covenant

Friday, May 30, 2014

SPEEDWAY--Thursday night closed with the Cloverdale Clovers playing their last game of the season. They lost to the Covenant Christian Warriors, 10-6.

The Clovers will lose four seniors, Jon Smith, Andrew Howard, Kade Schroer and Tyler Carter.

"I thought this season these guys knew we were young," Clovers' coach Bryan Archer said, "The three seniors that weren't injured knew there were going to be some growing pains. I thought they did a great job being encouraging and bringing these young kids up. They did a great job of playing Cloverdale baseball."

It was a back and forth game until the sixth inning when the game was tied at six. The Warriors then rallied off four runs including a 320 feet blast from Caleb Keehner.

The Clovers used three different pitchers on the night and Archer was pleased with what he saw.

"I thought pitching wise, we used three pitchers," Archer said, "Brayden White, Tyler Carter and Kade Schroer. I thought all of them did really well. They were hitting their spots and mixing up pitches well."

Archer said he has a lot to look forward to next year, especially with a lot of arms coming back.

"Were going to have some arms back," Archer said, "I think pitching is what we need to focus on throughout the year. The good thing about this year is playing all those young guys this year means they have another year of varsity experience."
