County Jail

Several people were booked into the Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 1:13 a.m. on Friday, Clarence William Gilmore, 26, Beech Grove, was arrested for criminal mischief and criminal trespassing.

At 3:45 p.m., Joby Tyler Spencer, 20, Greencastle, was arrested for operating while intoxicated and possession of marijuana.

At 9 p.m., Brandon Michael Boles, 24, Indianapolis, was arrested for operating while intoxicated and failure to appear.

* At 4:25 a.m. on Saturday, Chastene Burchett, 30, Greencastle, was charged with neglect of a dependent.

At 3:15 p.m., Teresa Arlina Pike, 52, Bainbridge, was arrested for operating while intoxicated, failure to leave identification at a traffic accident and being a habitual traffic violator.

* At 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, Jeramiah Laman Reed, 27, Cloverdale, was charged with possession of methamphetamines and possession of paraphernalia.

* At 4:50 p.m. on Monday, Shawn Raymond Ault, 39, Indianapolis, was arrested for driving on a suspended license and failure to appear.

At 4:55 p.m., Shawn Alpheuse Smith, 24, Indianapolis, was charged with possession of marijuana and a probation violation.

At 8:55 p.m., Jerry Allen Harris II, 28, Spencer, was charged with driving on a suspended license.

City Police

One recent arrest was reported by Greencastle City Police officers.

Robert Joseph Meyer Jr., 22, Aiken, S.C., was lodged in the Putnam County Jail on a theft charge after an 8:15 p.m. incident May 30 at the Walmart store.

Officer Kyle Lee reported that Meyer purchased a cell phone but later put a phone case, valued at $39.86, and screen protectors, valued at $14.97, into the bag containing the phone and attempted to leave the store without paying for them.

One recent traffic accident was investigated by GPD officers.

-- At 1:48 p.m. May 27, a two-vehicle mishap was reported on County Road 50 South near County Road 300 East.

Brian K. Hanlon, 50, Greencastle, was eastbound, approaching 300 East in a 2004 Dodge pickup truck when a 2002 GM Sonoma, driven by Paul Fischer, 55, Bainbridge, reportedly entered his path and forced Hanlon to go into a ditch to avoid a collision.

However, the westbound Sonoma still struck the rear wheels of the Dodge, causing the Hanlon vehicle to spin and cross the roadway, ending up in another ditch.

Fischer complained of back and leg pain but declined treatment. A female passenger in the Hanlon truck had knee pain but the report did not indicate whether she needed medical attention or not.

Officer Darrel Bunten estimated total damage in the accident at $10,000-$25,000.

One recent citation was written by city officers.

-- At 10:15 p.m. May 29, Officer Matt Huffman cited Dustan Buchanan, 39, Greencastle, at North Jackson and Frazier streets for an infraction of driving with a suspended license.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department has responded to several calls and one medical assist recently.

* At 2:33 p.m. on Sunday, June 1, GFD assisted Floyd Township with a gasoline spill containment at the intersection of East US highway 36 and County Road 600 North.

* At 1:50 p.m. on Monday, June 2, GFD was called to provide assistance at the scene of a motor vehicle accident on Indianapolis Road.

* At 3:07 p.m. on Monday, June 2, GFD was dispatched to 330 Greenwood Ave. for a fire alarm that was due to cooking.
