Richard Lee 'Dick' Borer

Richard Lee "Dick" Borer, 80, of Greencastle, passed away on Wednesday, June 4, 2014.

Born September 17, 1933 in Tiffin, Ohio, he was the son of Raymond and Susanna (Binder) Borer. He was a graduate of St. Joseph Catholic High School in Fremont, Ohio, and attended West Valley Junior College in Campbell, Calif.

He married Velma Marie (Adams) Borer on July 14, 1956 and she survives.

Richard was a veteran, having served in the United States Air Force and received a Presidential Citation from President Eisenhower. He worked at IBM for more than 31 years, retiring in 1987.

He was a member of the St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church; VFW; American Legion; Eagles Lodge; and the Moose Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Borer; children, Annette Friend, Brian (Donna) Borer and Kevin Borer; four grandchildren, Brandon (Ashley) Friend, Chad (Danielle) Friend, Brittany Borer and companion Lynn Novaski and Noah Borer; and great-grandchildren David Friend and Lily Friend.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Art and Donald Borer.

A mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 9 at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. Military honors will follow services at the church.

The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Sunday, June 8 at the Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home.
