County Jail

Several people were booked into the Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday, Theodore Willis Braun, 33, Terre Haute, was charged with nonsupport of a dependent.

At 4:52 p.m., Benjamin Earl Cash, 26, Greencastle, was arrested for domestic battery and interfering with reporting of a crime.

At 6:27 p.m., Darrin Scott Lyons, 27, Coatesville, was charged with a probation violation, possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance and trafficking a scheduled drug.

* At 3:13 a.m. on Wednesday, Anjali Makayla Cohen, 24, Greencastle, was arrested for theft and a probation violation.

* At 1:32 a.m. on Thursday, Cameron Tyler Stockton, 27, Greencastle, was charged with being a habitual traffic violator.

City Police

A 25-year-old Fillmore woman was injured in a two-vehicle accident Monday afternoon on Indianapolis Road, Greencastle City Police reported.

Jessica Burris was riding a 2013 JAO scooter eastbound on Indianapolis Road after reportedly pulling out of the Dairy Queen lot when the scooter was struck by a 2007 Hyundai, driven by Donald Ellison, 77, Spencer.

Ellison was reportedly pulling out of the Shoppes of Greencastle driveway on the south side of Indianapolis Road, attempting to turn westbound when he failed to see the scooter and pulled into its path, Office Jeff Modlin reported.

A witness said the impact knocked Burris from the scooter and onto the car before she slipped off the hood and landed on the ground.

She reportedly suffered a compound leg fracture and was taken via Operation Life ambulance to Putnam County Hospital with the intent of being transferred on to Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis.

Total damage in the 1:49 pm. accident was estimated at $2,500-$5,000.

Putnam County Sheriff's Deputy Tom Helmer assisted Officer Modlin at the accident scene on Indianapolis Road, 700 feet east of 10th Street.

-- Indianapolis Road was the scene of another accident at 9:10 p.m. Tuesday at its intersection with Percy Julian Drive.

Steven Buchanan, 59, Bainbridge, was eastbound on Indianapolis Road, driving a 2005 Dodge Ram owned by Timeless Builders, Plainfield, when a 2003 Dodge Stratus, driven on a learner's permit by Jacob Nissen, 15, Fillmore, turned left in front of him to try to go south on Percy Julian Drive.

Sgt. Charles Inman reported that witnesses said the Nissen vehicle had a green light but not a green arrow to allow him to turn left.

Total damage in the accident was listed at $5,000-$10,000.

Two recent traffic citations were issued by city officers.

-- At 8:55 p.m. Wednesday, Melinda Bayne, 46, Indianapolis, was ticketed by Officer Eric Vaughan for 55 mph in a 30-mph zone on Fillmore Road.

-- At 8:50 p.m. Monday, James Fligor, 63, West Lafayette, was cited by Officer Nick Eastham for 52 mph in a 30-mph zone on Bloomington Street, south of Martinsville Street.

Sheriff's Dept.

* At 2:35 p.m. on Saturday, Ryan Martin, 30, Indianapolis, was traveling eastbound on County Road 1075 South approaching County Road 300 East.

Martin advised Lt. Virgil Lanning that he hit a pothole he did not see and lost control of his 2007 AMF XL 1200 Series motorcycle during which he suffered an ankle injury and was transported via Medic 5.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

* At 9:09 a.m. on Sunday, Jeremy Maffoli, 19, Brazil, was driving through the parking area of the Croy Creek Traders Fair looking for an empty spot.

Maffoli advised Lanning that he was following Mark Johnson, 55, Brazil, when suddenly Johnson stopped and attempted to back his 1992 Chevrolet two-door convention van into an empty space.

Maffoli noted that he attempted to back up his 1999 Ford Mustang, but was unable to avoid a collision, causing Johnson to back over the hood of his vehicle.

Johnson stated he was attempting to back into the spot and when he check his mirrors he didn't see Maffoli as he was tailgating and following too close.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

At 6:18 p.m., Logan J. Cassidy, 23, Brazil, was traveling westbound on U.S. 40 when Sarah M. New, 21, Fillmore, attempted to turn northbound onto County Road 445 West, directly into the path of Cassidy's 1995 Ford Contour.

Deputy Kyle Gibbons stated that Cassidy's vehicle suffered severe front-end damage in colliding with New's 2008 Toyota Scion, which suffered severe right-side damage as a result.

As a result of New failing to yield, Cassidy's vehicle also struck at U.S. route "One Way" sign.

New advised Gibbons that as a result of the heavy downpour she didn't see Cassidy until it was too late.

Cassidy suffered minor cuts and bruises, but declined medical attention, while New suffered internal injuries and was transported to the hospital via Operation Life.

Damage was estimated at $25,001-$50,000.

* At 3:20 a.m. on Tuesday, Troy E. Campbell II., 21, Greencastle, was westbound on County Road 50 South.

Campbell advised Sgt. Craig Sibbitt that he swerved for a deer that had entered the roadway, which caused him to enter a ditch on the north side of the road.

Campbell then continued to hit a culvert and bounce over a driveway, coming airborne and striking a guardrail along with several small trees. He then went over the guardrail and rode it for approximately 60 feet before coming to rest with the front of the 2004 Ford F350 on top of the guardrail with the vehicle partially in the roadway.

Damage was estimated at $10,001-$25,000.
