CLOVERDALE -- The Town of Cloverdale will be marking its 175th birthday with an all-day celebration on Saturday.

The town-wide event will include live music in the Town Hall parking lot from 11 a.m.-9 p.m., bounce houses, vendors and more.

"There's activities going on all through town," Deputy Clerk Brandy Anderson said. "This is the first event Cloverdale has had in quite some time and we are very excited."

Set-up for vendors will begin at 11 a.m. with activities beginning shortly thereafter, including a parade at 1 p.m., which will feature Grand Marshal Hilda Logan.

"Hilda Logan has been chosen to be the grand marshal for the Cloverdale 175th Birthday Celebration," Anderson said. "Her father was the president of the Town Council during the 100th Birthday Celebration and helped plan the event. Hilda was only 10 years old during that celebration."

The parade will run from Brown Avenue to Lafayette Street, north to Robert Weist to U.S. 231. From U.S. 231 the parade will go to Water Street, back to Lafayette Street to the Cloverdale High School parking lot.

The Cloverdale Community Park will be hosting a free Silly Safaris animal show at 3 p.m. along with a free petting zoo and face painting. Children will also have the opportunity to meet Smokey the Bear at 2:30 p.m.

Those in attendance will also have the opportunity to meet Cloverdale Police Department's newest officer, Chewy, a K-9 that will be working with Sgt. Charlie Hallam.

Haywood's Auto will be hosting the pair, who will be giving demonstrations all day. Cloverdale Police Department officers will also be participating in a dunk tank, which will help raise money for the purchase of Chewy.

The day will also include a car show in the Family Dollar parking lot, a free concert by Madison Brolin at the C-Bar-C Expo Center from 7:30-9 p.m. as well as two comedy shows.

The family-friendly show, featuring stand-up comedian and Cloverdale High School alum Jeff Davis, will begin in the Town Hall parking lot immediately following the parade.

The second show, "Earls of Comedy," will feature stand-up comedians Mike Armstrong, Rolan Whitt and Davis at Karen's Kafe. Doors will open at 7:30 p.m. with the show being at 8 p.m. and admission $10.

Closing out the night will be a free outdoor showing of the movie, "The Sandlot," which will begin at 9:15 p.m. on the Cloverdale High School football field.

"Obviously, this year is special because it's the 175th birthday celebration, but we're hoping that each year we can have some sort of birthday celebration," Anderson stated. "Next year, our goal is to have everything be free. We weren't able to do that this year because time got away from us, but we were really close."

During the celebration, Logan, Grant and Water streets will be closed.

Vendors for the event include Coons Concession, Cloverdale Redevelopment Group, First National, Endeavor Communications, Pat's Creations, Heavenly Hairbows, Julie's Krafty Korner, Deanna's Designs, Daphne the Balloon Girl, Mary Kay Cosmetics, Geno's Kettle Corn, It Works!, Pink Lady's Kitchen, Cloverdale Prom Group, Cloverdale United Methodist, Flower Potcovers, JTB Creations, P.J.'s Jewelry & Crafts, Paparazzi, Pizza, Spuds & Stix and more.
