WAVELAND -- The Indiana Plein Air Painters Association (IPAPA) has announced that it will hold a "paint out" in the Montgomery County community of Waveland on Saturday, June 14.

The T.C. Steele Boyhood Home, 110 S. Cross St., Waveland, will serve as the event's headquarters. Hoosier artists will meet in Waveland, fan out in and around town and the nearby state parks, paint local scenes and later in the day reconvene at the Steele home to display their work.

The public is invited to attend for free and watch the artists paint and view the concluding exhibition. The exhibition begins at 3 p.m.

The public will also be able to purchase pieces directly from the artists at that day's exhibition.

"Paint outs are one way we promote the rich tradition of plein air (outdoor) painting in Indiana and the excellent work created by our members," IPAPA president Chris Newlund said. "We are most excited to be visiting Waveland for our first paint out in this part of the state in quite some time.

"Turkey Run and Shades State Parks, the nearby covered bridges and the local rural scenes offer special painting opportunities to our artists," Newlund added. "Indiana's best known artist, T.C. Steele, popularized painting outside more than a century ago. Being able to use his boyhood home as our headquarters and meeting location is a special treat."

In existence for nearly two decades and with more than 300 members, IPAPA regularly hosts paint outs across the state, including New Harmony, Lake Wawasee and Brookville.

Some of the Hoosier artists expected to participate in the Waveland Paint Out include Kathy Blankenheim (Brownsburg), Ron Bowles (Vincennes), Mark Burkett (Mooresville), Sondra Cromwell (Arcadia), Mary Ann Neely Davis (Indianapolis), Steve Haigh (Carmel), Corrine Hull (Indianapolis), Jeff Klinker (Linden), Jeanne McLeish (Mooresville), Diane Overmyer (Wakarusa), Donna Shortt (Indianapolis), Jerry Smith (Crawfordsville), Karen Stanley (Indianapolis), Carol Strock Wasson (Randolph County) and Katrina Lynn West (Indianapolis).
