V. Madeline Thompson, 85, of Greencastle, and formerly of Brazil, died Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at Asbury Towers in Greencastle.

Madeline was born Jan. 28, 1929, in Buchannon County, Va., the daughter of Charles and Allie (Osborn) Burke.

Over the years Madeline had owned and operated Madeline's Christian Book Store in Greencastle. She also worked for Angwell Curtain Factory in Greencastle, Schultz Department Store in Greencastle, Stuckey's/Cloverdale Truck Stop, Gail's Kwik Mart and Cloverdale Nursing Home.

Most recently she worked as the manager at Lamp Light Manor in Brazil.

Madeline loved people and truly enjoyed her time working as a volunteer at the Cloverdale Nursing Home and Putnam County Hospital.

In her free time she enjoyed quilting, knitting, crocheting, painting, gardening, canning and traveling.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, David Michael Shrader; siblings Albert Burke, Lewis Burke, Lee Burke, Jessee Burke, Thurman Burke, Susie Terry, Gurtie Boyd, Eula Burke, Trula Burke and Naomi Clifton.

Madeline is survived by her husband, Virgil Thompson of Greencastle; a daughter, Joyce Clodfelter and husband Doug of Brazil; two sons: Tommy W. Brown and wife Pam of Greencastle, and Calvin Shrader and wife Janie of Knightsville; two stepsons, Randall Thompson and Drew Thompson, both of Brazil; grandchildren Angela Satterfield, Holly Foster, Jeremy Staley, David Brown, Jarrod Brown, Rachel Yerden, Tamila Sawyer, Tara Allison, Angela Michael, Christina Graham, Brandy Pierce, Cayla Cloncs, Cayleigh Shrader and Carleigh Shrader; several great-grandchildren and extended family members.

Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, June 16 at Lawson Miller Chapel, 1702 E. National Ave., Brazil. Burial will follow at Cloverdale Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday, from 11 a.m. until time of services.
