Saturday, June 14, 2014

A special program on Masks and Puppet Making for Young Children is scheduled for Tuesday, June 17 at the Putnam County Public Library on from 5 to 7:45 p.m.

Children's Theater Director Kathy Stephan will conduct the workshop in which young children -- with the assistance of children's family and/or friends -- will make a mask and puppet using simple materials.

This is the second program in the library's "Maker Tuesday" lineup, a creative program series for children through adult.

Stephan directed children's theater in Greencastle for 10 years, and at the Shawnee Theatre in Bloomfield for three summers. She has used puppets to tell stories since 1991 -- the year in which she was awarded the first a San Antonio Arts and Cultural Affairs theater grant.

Additionally, Stephan has taught reading at Pueblo, Blackfeet and Navajo reservations in New Mexico and Montana until her retirement in 2013.

Meanwhile, o

n Tuesday, June 24 at 5 p.m., DePauw theater professor Tim Good will offer "A Day in the Life of Putnam County," a story-making program for all ages.

Light refreshments will be served. These programs are free and open to the public.

The library also notes that its children's programs will be canceled for the week of June 16-21 due to the start of the Children's Library renovation. Children's programs will resume June 23 in the Kiwanis room.
