Rockville man, 27, collapses, dies after swimming in creek

BLOOMINGDALE -- Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating the death of John Androusky, 27, of Rockville.

Indiana Conservation Officer divers located Androusky's body in approximately eight feet of water in Sugar Creek, upstream of the Jackson covered bridge, west of Bloomingdale in Parke County.

Androusky had been hiking with a friend in the Sugar Creek Conservation Area Monday evening when he reportedly swam across Sugar Creek and back.

According to witness statements he was standing near the water's edge and collapsed into the creek.

A 911 call was placed by Androusky's hiking companion to the Parke County Sheriff's Dispatch at 5:28 p.m. The recovery was made by divers at 6:28 p.m. Monday.

Efforts to resuscitate Androusky were unsuccessful. An autopsy was scheduled Tuesday at Terre Haute Regional Hospital.

Responding agencies were the Indiana Conservation Officers, Parke County Sheriff's Department, Bloomingdale Volunteer Fire Department, Parke County EMS and Parke County Coroner's Office.
