Master Gardener Scholars

Friday, June 27, 2014
The Putnam County Master Gardener Association has initiated a scholarship program for students pursuing a career in a gardening-related field. The careers might be in botany, plant science, agriculture, horticulture, forestry or landscape architecture/design or another related field. Seniors from all four county high schools were encouraged to apply. The $500 scholarships this year were awarded to two Putnam County students: Amanda Modglin of South Putnam High School and Benjamin Wiatt of North Putnam High School. Amanda has plans to attend the University of Kentucky in the fall, while Benjamin will go to Purdue University. Wiatt (center) came to the Putnam County Master Gardener Association meeting on June 3 and was presented his scholarship check by scholarship committee chairman Damaris Zehner (left) and president Cyndi Blocher, Modglin was not able to attend.
