Cloverdale's Heather Goss wins FFA state award
WEST LAFAYETTE -- The Indiana FFA Association has announced its 2014 proficiency winners, including one student from Putnam County.
The awards were announced at the 85th annual Indiana FFA State Convention conducted June 16-19 at Purdue University.
Heather Goss of the Cloverdale FFA chapter won the State Star in Placement.
Goss was recognized for her work at the Cloverdale FFA Greenhouse, Rolling Meadows Plant Farm and Goss Family Farms. Her work was considered outstanding among hundreds of placement SAE's throughout the state of
Indiana.
The Agricultural Proficiency Awards honor FFA members who, through their SAEs, have developed specialized skills they can apply toward future careers.
Students compete for awards in 49 areas covering everything from Agricultural Communications to Wildlife Management. Each award area has two categories, placement and entrepreneurship.
Placement proficiency awards, such as the one presented to Goss, are given to those whose SAEs are related to employment, apprenticeships or internships at an agribusiness or agriculture-related organization.
The Indiana FFA helps make a positive difference in the lives of more than 10,000 students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
