Johanna R. Dardeen

Johanna R. Dardeen, 93 of Brazil, passed away June 30, 2014 at 1:40 a.m. at Mill Pond Health Campus in Greencastle.

She was born July 16, 1920 in Clay County, the daughter of William Butt and Esther McCullough Butt. She graduated from Staunton High School and later attended beauty school.

She owned and operated her own beauty salon known as "Johanna's Beauty Mart." As a young lady she worked at Quaker Maid in Terre Haute. Her last career outside the home was working as a realtor at Pfister & Co. in Terre Haute and Century 21 in Brazil.

On Feb. 10, 1940, Johanna was united in marriage to Denver Dardeen. She and Denny raised their sons in Clay County and attended the Pleasant Grove Church of Christ. The last two years, she attended Rockville Road Church of Christ.

Johanna was a member of the Clay County Homemaker's Club and the Ladies Golf League at Forest Park. She was an accomplished painter and enjoyed working with oil paints.

Her priority was always her faith and her family. Sunday dinners after church were very important and she was well known for her attention to details, down to the table décor.

Survivors include her two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Carolyn Dardeen of Brazil and Marc and Terry Dardeen of Danville; grandchildren Eric Dardeen (Jill), Emilee Whitaker (Craig), Leslie Dardeen and Dawn Dardeen; great-grandchildren Trent Dardeen, Kearsten Dardeen, Gavin Dardeen, Mason Reynolds, Casey Vickers, Corey Vickers, Garrett Stephens, Mitchell Stephens (Adria), Melanie Fougerousse, Hollie Fougerousse, Seth Whitaker, Sydney Whitaker and Hunter Whitaker; sisters-in-law Doris Butt of Brazil and Wanda Dardeen of Las Vegas; other extended family and her beloved church family.

She was preceded in death by her parents husband Denny Dardeen on April 17, 2006, brother Vaughn Butt and sister Wanda Fagg and husband Ermel.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Lawson-Miller Chapel with Brothers Brian Burns and Walter Hunter officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 11 a.m. until the time of service.
