Morris R. Bitzer Sr.

Morris Ray Bitzer, 83, of Evansville, ended his earthly struggles on Tuesday, July 8, 2014, at Heritage Care Center.

Born Dec. 10, 1930 in Greencastle, he was the son of Orville and Alma (Crabtree) Bitzer. Morris was a graduate of Greencastle High School.

Upon graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and served in the Mediterranean. He later attended Laines Drafting College and completed many courses in computer programming.

Morris retired from Welborn Baptist Hospital, where he worked as a methods analyst. Prior to joining Welborn, Morris served as systems analyst for General Electric, Philco and Hughes Aircraft.

He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Mt. Vernon.

Morris is survived by sons Dr. Morris "Rusty" (Joni) Bitzer of Evansville and Mark (Beverly) Bitzer of Fountain Valley, Calif.; daughter Beth Bitzer or Evansville; five grandchildren, Andrew (Megan) Bitzer of Jasper, Nicole (Brandon) Jackson of Evansville, Connor, Cory and Jake Bitzer of Fountain Valley.; six great-grandchildren, Ayden and Maverick Bitzer and Kyle, Heidi, Ty and Tensley Jackson.

Morris was preceded in death by his wife Barbara Jean (Reed) Bitzer and son Paul Daniel Bitzer.

The family will receive friends from 9-11 a.m. Saturday at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home, with services at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery in Greencastle.

Memorial contributions may be made in Morris' name to the Vanderburgh County Humane Society or Heritage Hospice in Evansville.
