Stacey Baugh

CLOVERDALE -- The Cloverdale School Board met for its monthly meeting on Monday evening, during which it accepted the resignation of Stacey Baugh as elementary/middle school principal.

With Baugh's departure, former elementary school behavioral coach Brad Sandy will move into the elementary school principal position, while Cloverdale native Dawn Tucker will then take over as middle school principal.

"I want to thank her from all of us -- the board, district, students and family," Superintendent Carrie Milner said. "She's done an amazing job. She will be missed."

Baugh will become the assistant superintendent at the Mill Creek Community School Corporation, a position she has dreamed of having for quite some time.

"Cloverdale is always going to be near and dear to me because I was a graduate of Cloverdale," Baugh said. "I felt like this position opened and it's my two areas of passion, in curriculum instruction and professional development."

Baugh began her career at Cloverdale as assistant principal at Cloverdale High School in 2006 prior to becoming principal at Cloverdale Elementary School in 2009 and middle school principal in 2012.

"I have absolutely no regrets at Cloverdale. It's just kind of given me a well-rounded background," Baugh added. "I felt like it was a good time in my life to kind of slow down and regroup. I had my superintendent's license right before I moved to the elementary. My long-term goal was always some kind of superintendence."

With her new position as assistant superintendent, Baugh is excited to focus on just two areas rather than the heavy workload that comes with holding two principal positions.

"I feel like I put my all into my profession to the point where life was just flying by," Baugh said. "I now have two grandbabies with another one on the way. I just want to slow down and enjoy life and just focus my gifts in two particular areas."

So, as Sandy prepares to begin the new school year in less than a month, he is looking forward to continuing his career at Cloverdale.

"I am extremely excited about my new position here at Cloverdale Elementary School," Sandy said. "I am student-centered and will strive to make sure our students have success in all aspects of school. As always, I am proud to be a Clover."

Sandy, a Cloverdale native, received his bachelor's degree from Indiana State University with his masters and administrative license coming from Indiana Wesleyan University.

He began teaching first grade at Cloverdale in 1998 before moving to the administrative office within the last three years.

"We're running really smooth right now," Sandy said. "We're just hoping for a smooth transition and keep things the way they're going."

Tucker received her bachelor's degree in elementary education and middle school language arts and science from Indiana University in 1985. She went on to earn her masters of education from DePauw University prior to receiving her principal's license from Indiana State University.

She began her teaching career in Clay City in 1985. After spending several years there, Tucker then went on to teach at Bainbridge Elementary and Greencastle Middle School, eventually returning to Cloverdale Middle School last year as a seventh-grade science teacher.

"So I started teaching 29 years ago, but going into my 20th year of education," Tucker said noting she took 10 years off to be a stay at home mom. "I'm looking forward to following in Mrs. Baugh's footsteps. She had a lot of good programs going on and I want to continue those. We have a fantastic staff here at CMS. I'm looking forward to continuing in a positive direction."

Following in Baugh's footsteps shouldn't be too hard for Tucker as she recently completed her principal internship under Baugh this last year.

"I feel honored to be the new principal at Cloverdale Middle School," Tucker said. "It's a blessing to be back home and to serve in the community in which I was raised. Due to the former leadership of Mrs. Baugh and the tremendous CMS staff, I feel confident we will be a great team and serve our students well."

Former middle school curriculum coordinator Cathy Ames will also serve as the middle school assistant principal.

  • Very pleased with the selection of Dawn Tucker. The school board made the right choice on that position. 🍀
