Charles Steven 'Greek' Alex

Charles Steven "Greek" Alex, 69, of Coatesville, passed away on Sunday, July 27, 2014.

Charlie was born on Sept. 11, 1944 in Clayton to Mike Alex and Hazel Margarite Kugelman Alex.

He was a graduate of Stilesville High School, and a lifelong member of Stilesville Christian Church.

Greek was also a member of the Greencastle Moose Lodge No. 1592, Greencastle Elks Lodge No. 1077, Greencastle Eagles Aerie No. 4388, Plainfield Eagles Aerie No. 3207, Windy Hill Country Club, the U.S. Bowling Congress and the Greater Greencastle Bowlers Hall of Fame.

Greek, the former owner of Varsity Lanes, had the distinction of bowling two "official" 300 games.

He was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings, Lena Niehaus, Frank Alex, Christy Alex, Pandily Alex and Tommy Tom.

Charlie is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jenny; his children Tammy Alex of Dickson, Tenn., Robert Alex and wife Janelle of Colorado Springs, Colo., Tina Hyten and husband Mike of Coatesville and Christa Duff of Greencastle; a sister, Janet Gray of Plainfield; 12 grandchildren who were the pride and joy of his life, Alexis Cummings and husband Chris, Dru Secrest and significant other Ryan Farris, Reggie Alex, Anthony Cosner, Bogeley Alex, Josh Bellmore, J.T. Chadd and fiancée Desiree Grassick, Brianna Hyten, Alex Hyten and significant other Colton Maynor, Stone Hyten, Duke Duff and Jalyn Duff; four great-grandchildren, Ruby Cummings, Hazel Cummings, Lovie Cummings and Carson Winslow; extended special family members, Bill and Teresa Parrish and their family, Steve, DeAnna, Brian and Jeri Dee; Amy and Dave Wells; Mick and Jackie Alex; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

Charlie was the biggest fan of his grandchildren; he and Jenny attended many of their games and often multiple games in one night.

Greek enjoyed singing a cappella at church and karaoke. When he walked into a room, "Hello Darlin" was all that was said.

He was an avid golfer, and had accomplished a hole-in-one. Greek was also a big fan of I.U. and Pacers basketball.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 2 at 10 a.m. at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home, with Rev. Jim Staggers officiating. Interment will follow at Stilesville Cemetery. Those who have golfed or bowled with Greek are invited to serve as Honorary Pallbearers.

The family will receive friends on Friday, Aug 1 from 2-8 p.m. at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home.
