In a special meeting Thursday, the Greencastle School Board approved Emily Johnson as the new Ridpath Elementary principal in the wake of Shawn Gobert's resignation from the role he has held since 2011.

The change was unanimously approved and is to take place immediately, with Johnson beginning in her new role Aug. 1.

Johnson has been with the Greencastle Community School Corp. for 15 years, most recently as the assistant principal at Tzouanakis

Shawn Gobert

Elementary.

"I'm very pleased and excited about the opportunity," Johnson said.

A type of meet and greet is scheduled for kindergarteners, Friday from 9 a.m. - 11 a.m. at Ridpath Elementary and will consist of snacks, playing on the playground and provide a chance for parents to meet the new

principal.

"I plan to continue with the Greencastle school mission and vision, and have fun with the kids," Johnson said.

The school board was excited to fill the role from within the corporation and were happy to approve the transfer of Johnson into her new role.

"She's a seasoned GCSC employee with extensive experience with primary-aged children, she's a perfect fit," Superintendent Dawn Puckett said. "She knows our procedure, the families and the

programs."

No reason was given for Gobert's resignation and he will remain on staff as the school safety specialist through August.
