Loren E. Smith, 83, of Russellville, died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014.

Born May 25, 1931 in Fillmore, he was the son of Joseph and Sallie Lewis Smith and grew up on the family farm with his sister Wilma and three brothers, Harold, Orval and Dwight.

He joined the Marines after high school and was a veteran of the Korean War.

He lived and worked in California where he was a carpenter by trade until he retired and moved back to Indiana.

He was a member of the Marine Corps League, American Legion, Elks, Moose and Carpenters Union.

He was a Christian and a generous man, sometimes hard headed but not hard hearted. He worked hard but enjoyed life and was loved by many.

He is survived by his son, Gregory E. Smith, California; his sister, Wilma Becker Crosby and husband William, Indianapolis; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 7 at Matthews Mortuary, Brownsburg, with visitation there from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. at Wesley Chapel Cemetery, Fillmore.
