4-H Tractor Club honors 2014 champions, Sutherlin
The 4-H Tractor Club hosted its annual contest prior to the 2014 Putnam County 4-H Fair. Even with a big turnout, members and organizers were able to complete the contest before it began pouring down rain.
Last year, Nick Scott won the national contest, having already won county, area and state. In 2014, he ran the Putnam County contest in memory of Riley Sutherlin, giving a wagon ride to Riley's family and friends as part of the event.
Sutherlin was an active member of tractor club and was the local favorite to make it to state this year before his untimely death in June.
Following the county contest, Putnam County hosted the area contest on Tuesday, July 29, with 11 counties gathering for the event. The top three will go on to the Indiana State Fair on Saturday, Aug. 16 at 7:30 p.m., east of the Indiana State Fair Family Fun Park.
Tractor Club leaders Jerrod and Melissa Haddon wish to thank Humphreys' Outdoor Power for the donation of tractors for the county and area contest, as well as Nick Scott, Devin Oxford, Ernie Sheldon, Daniel Pell and Nathanael Snyder for helping judge.
Participants must complete a written test as well as part identification. The driving portion consists of pre-
safety inspection as well as driving in a course.
