Having seen Terre Haute North only Tuesday at the Terre Haute South Braves Invitational, Greencastle's girls' golf squad knew that a strong effort was going to be needed in order to find a win on Thursday.

While the Tiger Cubs matched their score from Monday at Windy Hill, that would be insufficient as the Patriots claimed a183-209 victory.

Lauren Bridgewater paced the hosts with a round of 44 while Lokysa Scheuermann carded a 49. Macey Masten was next on the score sheet for the Tiger Cubs with a round of 57 and Alexa Newlin rounded out the scoring with a tally of 59.

Other scores for Greencastle included 61's from Lindsey Bridgewater and Haley Cash, a round of 65 by Alex Weliever and a 74-stroke outing by Gabby Selvia.

Greencastle coach Bob Hedge had wanted to see the squad progress from Tuesday and got that out of the Tiger Cub No. 1.

"Lauren played very well today," Hedge said. "She shot a 44 and 22 of those strokes were putts. She had five three-putts but she struck the ball very well, got on the green in regulation a lot and if we can get the putting to come around a little bit, I really liked her game tonight.

"Everyone else had an off day. I can't say I was pleased with the way we played tonight. I think we're a better team than the one that shot the same score we did on Monday."

Megan Ramer took medalist honors for Terre Haute North with a round of 41, followed on the score sheet by Emily Wright's 46, Alex Bryant's 47 and 49's recorded by Mia Ponsot and Layla Ahmadi.

The course continued to play well but Hedge noted that for the third straight outing, putting was a hindrance for the whole Tiger Cub team.

"It sounds like a broken record but I hope the putting comes along," Hedge said. "This course is a hard course to putt on. I don't think Terre Haute North was really thrilled to death with their scores either.

"We're going to improve but we've got a long way to go."

Greencastle finally gets a reprieve after 36 holes of golf over four days. Its next match is Monday at home against North Putnam with a trip back to Rea Park the following Wednesday against Terre Haute South to follow.

Hedge said that it would be a good chance to see how the squad was progressing with a county match and another opponent the squad has already competed against.

"I will be interested to see how we compete when we go back to Rea Park next week," Hedge said. "We haven't seen North Putnam this year so I don't know too much about them other than what has been in the paper, but I'm sure (North Putnam head coach) Linda (Patrick) will have them playing as well as they can possibly play."
