City Police

Two recent property-damage accidents were investigated by Greencastle City Police officers.

-- At 1:34 p.m. Thursday, a two-vehicle mishap was reported on Indianapolis Road near its intersection with 10th Street on the city's East Side.

Officer Albert Epple reported that Mark Butcher, 20, Roachdale, was eastbound on Indianapolis Road, driving a 1994 Ford F-150 truck, when he realized he needed to be in the left turn lane.

Signaling his intention to change lanes, Butcher reportedly moved left but failed to see an eastbound 2007 Ford Focus, driven by Jackie Denny, 28, Greencastle, was in his blind spot, police said.

The collision resulted in an estimated $2,500-$5,000 total damage to the Butcher truck and the Ford Focus, which is owned by Putnam County Comprehensive Services.

-- At 12:05 p.m. Thursday, a two-vehicle accident occurred on East Washington Street, 300 feet east of Arlington Street.

Officer Jeff Modlin reported that Joseph A. Zaborski, 20, Greencastle, was backing a 2002 Mitsubishi from a driveway along Washington Street when he failed to see a 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier, driven by Sierra Shoemaker, 24, Greencastle, and backed into the eastbound car.

Total damage in the mishap was listed at $2,500-$5,000.

Shoemaker was issued a citation for having no insurance.

Two other citations were written recently by Greencastle officers.

-- At 9:25 p.m. Monday, Olivia Fasulko, 65, Greencastle, was stopped at Crown and Hanna streets by Officer Kyle Lee. She was ticketed for having an expired license plate (May 28).

-- At 9:57 p.m. Monday, Nicole Stewart, 32, Coatesville, was stopped on Judson Drive by Capt. Chris Jones. Stewart was cited for driving with a suspended license with a prior offense.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department has responded to multiple dispatches recently.

* At 6:22 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, GFD was called to extinguish a grass fire on Veterans Memorial Highway.

* At 3:16 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, GFD responded to a fire alarm at 109 W. Hanna St. that had been triggered by an alarm malfunction.

* At 4:16 p.m. Wedesday, Aug 6, GFD were called to the Puntamville Correctional Facility at 1946 U.S. Highway 40 to investigate a car fire. GFD found a car that had caught fire but was extinguished prior to its arrival. Upon investigation it appeared the fire had started in the rear of the engine area and nothing suspicious was discovered.

* At 12:12 p.m. Thursday, Aug 7, GFD performed a motor vehicle accident cleanup at 718 E. Washington St., no injuries were reported and damage was only done to personal property.

* At 8:41 a.m. Friday, Aug 8, GFD performed a motor vehicle accident cleanup at the intersection of Franklin St. and Durham St., no injuries were reported and damage was done only to personal property.
