Bainbridge class of '64 celebrates 50 years

Bainbridge High School's class of 1964 held its 50-year reunion recently at the Community Building in Bainbridge. Some 31 classmates along with 20 spouses and guests were present for the buffet dinner and program. Emcee for the program was Alan Ader of Rockville.

Following the dinner Susie Clark Anderson of Crawfordsville and Jackie Minnick Fowler of Bainbridge conducted a memorial for the four deceased classmates and both faculty class sponsors. They included: Danny Webber, Tom Lasley, Anna Osborn Applegate and John McMurtry along with sponsors June Irwin and Noal Nicholson.

Also recognized were the members of the class who served in the U.S. military, including Bill Houser, M.D. of Newburgh and Carl Ferrand of Greencastle, both in the Air Force; John Hillis of Las Cruces, N.M. and Donald McAninch of Brownsburg, both in the Army; Bill Rossok of Waveland and Lyle Underwood of Crawfordsville both in the Navy; Ken Age of Dunedin, Fla. and Errol Bilbruck of Rosewell, Ga., both in the Marines; and John McMurtry (deceased), Dick Smith of Brookston, Hal Snider, Jr. of Greencastle and Steve Winters of Rockville, all in the Army National Guard. Each of the veterans present then made brief comments on their service duties and locations.

A BHS 64 trivia game was led by Carl Ferrand and Dick Smith. Several classmates won Bainbridge High School coffee mugs for correct answers.

Gary Canada of Brownsburg and Alan Ader presented a PowerPoint slide and video program. It included more than 100 photos of class activities and video featuring a collection of movies taken at eighth grade graduation in 1960, 1964 varsity basketball action, the BHS 64 senior trip and commencement.

Other members of the class attending the reunion included Don Albin, Auburn; Don Bell, Indianapolis; Rose Norman Baker, Indianapolis; Sharon Fowler Baldwin, Cloverdale; Linda Jackman Barnett, Indianapolis; Marcia Winslow Bagwell, Greentown; Sue Buttery Baxter, Greencastle; Kathy Dearinger Coffin, Franklin; Bill Cope, Whitestown; Sherry Edwards, Reelsville; Norma Spencer Fink, Greencastle; Linda McCarty Everts, Fillmore; Janice Stisher Hash, Bargersville; Kathy Purcell Houser, Newburgh; Marilynn Day Patton, Terre Haute; Donna Blaydes Riggen, Brownsburg; Becky Scobee Voss, Indianapolis and Joyce Young Leonard, Waynetown.

The five living classmates who couldn't come to the reunion were sent greeting cards collectively signed by those attending. They were sent to John Hillis; Errol Bilbruck; Shirley Taylor Ward, Terre Haute; Linda Johnston Martin, Brazil and Judy Anderson Flint, Bainbridge.

Linda York Smith, who attended BHS with the class of 1965, and Kathy Reynolds, from the BHS class of 1969, were recognized for their volunteer service as photographers for the reunion.

The day following the class reunion most of the class members attended the annual Bainbridge High School alumni banquet held at the Bainbridge Community Building where the BHS '64 class was honored for their 50 year graduation anniversary.
