New location, same old jazz for Crown Street Music Fest

Sunday, August 17, 2014

It won't be on Crown Street this time around, but a new venue won't stop the 2014 Crown Street Music Festival from bringing good music to the community and needed funds to the Family Youth Community Development Program (FYCDP).

In conjunction with Putnam County Airport Appreciation Days, the event will take place Saturday, Sept. 6 at the Putnam County Regional Airport.

Board member Joe Miles said the move from the FYCDP Center at 605 Crown St. was suggested by some fellow board members as a way to get the event more exposure.

While it remains to be seen what the exposure level will be, Miles said plans are already in the works to move back to the center's Crown Street location in 2015.

For now, though, the hope is to expose an entirely different group of people not only to some good music, but to the tutoring, education and other youth-based community programs that take place at the FYCDP Center.

For a $5 ticket (children 10 and younger are free), music fans can hear local favorites The Hauskatz from 3-4 p.m., followed by Convergence from 4:30-5:30.

Blues Side Up will headline the event with a 90-minute set beginning at 6 p.m.

As a special treat, the show will open with music from some young performers from the Music School

of Rockology.

The festivities will also feature barbecue from Chief's, desserts from Bert and Betty's, a 50-50 drawing and a beer and wine garden.
