County Jail

Several people were booked into the Putnam County Jail this weekend.

* At 6:25 p.m. on Friday, Joshua Michael Booe, 31, Shelburn, was charged with nonsupport of a dependent.

At 9 p.m., Brian Joseph Skeen, 45, Terre Haute, was arrested on a probation violation.

* At 2 a.m. on Saturday, Dylan Andrew Boster, 20, Greencastle, was arrested for strangulation, disorderly conduct and domestic battery.

At 3:55 p.m., Kathie Ann Courtney, 54, Bloomington, was charged with operating while intoxicated.

* At 7 p.m. on Sunday, Christopher Scott Overmyer, 41, CentePoint, was charged with driving with a suspended license.

* At 4:10 p.m. on Monday, Garry Dean Rigney Jr., 33, Greencastle, was arrested for violation of home detention, possession of marijuana and maintaining a common nuisance.

At 5 p.m., Alan Winfield Roads, 55, Cloverdale, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, possession of paraphernalia, possession of marijuana and operating while intoxicated.

At 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Joseph Scott Copeland, 28, Indianapolis, was arrested for nonsupport of a dependent and failure to appear.

City Police

A 29-year-old Greencastle man is facing charges in connection with a reported shoplifting incident at the local Walmart store, City Police reported.

Matthew Blauvelt, 29, Greencastle, will be summoned into court, police said, after Sgt. Terry Eastham was called to the store at 2:59 p.m. Saturday to investigate the incident.

Eastham reported that Blauvelt allegedly took a baseball cap and a small flashlight, valued at a total of $37.33. He is being charged with theft and conversion.

The suspect reportedly went through the checkout lane and paid for a pair of boots and a sandwich, police said, but concealed the other two items.

One recent property-damage accident was investigated by city officers at 12:30 p.m. Monday on East Washington Street, near Durham Street.

Officer Darrel Bunten reported that a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer, driven by Ashley Salsman, 28, Greencastle, had turned onto Washington Street eastbound off Bloomington Street.She stopped to turn left onto Durham when the vehicle was struck from behind by a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by Amber Manning, 28, Cloverdale, Bunten said.

Total damage was estimated at $5,000-$10,000.

Sheriff's Dept.

* At 10:54 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 10, Samantha Freije, 17, Coatesville, was southbound on County Road 675 East, approaching County Road 200 North.

Freije told Lt. Virgil Lanning as she applied her brakes to slow for a curve she felt the steering wheel shake violently in her 2001 Buick Regal. It is believed that the anti-lock brake system failed and thus she ran off the road, striking a ditch on the right side.

Damage was estimated at $1,001-$2,500.

*At 11:27 a.m. Saturday, David A. Deakins, 30, Center Point, was southbound on County Road 500 West when Ephriam H. Salb, 21, Bowling Green, who was northbound, crossed left of center.

Lt. Dwight Simmons reported that Salb's 1998 Dodge Ram 3500 struck Deakins' 2013 GMC 1500 midway back on the driver's side, causing extensive damage.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene and Salb was cited for driving left of center.

Assisting was the Reelsville Volunteer Fire Department.

Damage was estimated at $10,001-$25,000.

* At 7:15 p.m. Monday, Zyan S. Cox, 18, Greencastle, was southbound on County Road 25 East, entering a left curve in the road at approximately County Road 125 North.

Cox told Deputy Mike Downing he lost control of his 1989 Cadillac Eldorado due to his speed, which caused him to run off the roadway and strike a utility pole.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 2:18 a.m. Tuesday, David M. Skirvin II., 19, Plainfield, was southbound on County Road 200 West in a 2003 GM Sierra.

Skirvin advised Deputy Phillip Troyer he was unfamiliar with the roads and due to heavy fog in the area it was difficult to see the roadway. Skirvin came up on a curve in the road, just as the roadway turns from asphalt to gravel, lost control of his vehicle and went off the road, striking a tree head-on.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department has performed two medical assists and responded to several dispatches recently.

* At 10:54 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15, GFD was called to 16 S. Jackson St. for a fire alarm triggered due to construction dust.

* At 3:22 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15, GFD extinguished a trash fire at 209 E. Franklin St.

* At 1:15 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17, GFD was dispatched to a fire alarm at 102 W. Poplar St. that had been triggered due to excess heat in a laundry room.

* At 4:58 p.m. and 9:11 p.m. Sunday, Aug 17, GFD was called to 208 E. Olive St. to investigate a fire alarm. The first visit was due to a coffee pot and the second was due to burnt popcorn. There was no fire in either incident.

* At 8:13 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17, GFD responded to 309 E. Franklin St. for a fire alarm that had been triggered due to steam from a shower.

* At 5:53 p.m. Monday, Aug. 18, GFD was dispatched to a fire alarm at 308 S. Indiana St., upon arrival no fire was found.

* At 12:44 a.m. Monday, Aug. 18, GFD provided cleanup for a motor vehicle accident in front of 602 E. Washington St.

* At 11:14 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 19, GFD investigated a natural gas odor at 110 E. Larabee St. Upon investigation it was found that pilot lights on the stove were not lit, no major problems resulted.

* At 1:15 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 19, GFD was called to 1421 Bloomington St. to investigate a smoke detector activation but upon arrival, no reason was found for the triggering of the alarm.
